John, I hear you! Everybody loves sunny skies and perfect ski conditions. Sadly if there ever was a “rock and a hard place” predicament for ski area operators this would be it. Snowmaking is a necessary “evil” that we’re lucky to have if skiing is the goal. Whether it’s a natural blizzard or blowing snowguns, both put snow under skis and boards and often in our faces and on our goggles. Right now Sugar Mountain is open top to bottom, which makes a lot of people happy, especially skiers. Luckily when that “100% open” milestone is attained it isn’t unusual for resorts to shut down the snow guns. If you can time it, I usually pick a day when temps rebound (and keep those goggles handy).

I wish Sugar Mtn. would not make snow during the day ski sessions especially when 20 to 30 mile an hour winds are whipping the area in blizzard like conditions making it hard to ski as goggles ice up. Don't ever decide to ski there without goggles because of this.
