For over 50 years Peter has negotiated slippery surfaces. First, as a child into his early 20s, he played ice hockey. His next challenge came in his early 20s when he started snow skiing. Having learned on the “old gear”, he now guides skiing from a geologists’ perspective in Colorado. (He has a BS and MS in Geology). In the off ski season he guides hiking trips for individuals and groups.
Peter emphasizes safety, fun, personal challenge, and education when guiding. “For me, the best reward in guiding guests is the fun I have sharing the beauty of the place I call home and conveying complex natural history in layman’s terms.”
In addition to rocks, Peter’s interests are in Colorado state history, including native cultures, skiing, hiking, resource and energy issues, food growing and preparation, green construction, baking, and living simply. He resides in rural western Colorado and can be reached at petermccarville@gmail.com
